Day 3 Cycle: 55 miles

Day 3 cycle route
I woke up feeling much better after a really good night's sleep. We headed down for breafast at 6am determined to make an early start but unfortunately the hotel staff had other ideas.

Max went and packed the bikes while I ordered breakfast for the two of us. Unfortunately something got lost in translation though as only one breakfast appeared and, on closer inspection, it seemed to be a hybrid of both our orders 😂

Thankfully we managed to reorder without too much more confusion and soon enough we were on our way.
Setting off - feeling quite optimistic 😀

We'd agreed that our strategy for the day would be to make several short pitstops for ice cold drinks at the service stations en route. Our hope was that, taking into account the slightly earlier start and marginally lower mileage, provided we didn’t overheat too quickly, we could finish most, if not all, of the ride before the heat dragged us under. We've started transferring the ice from the drinks into a zip bag which, strategically placed, acts like an ice pack to help keep us cool once back on the bike👍

Rice milling - there were loads of these roadside stalls and they were very popular!

Another petrol station - animals everywhere 🥰

We are finding the Cambodians to be some of the friendliest and happiest people we've met. All along the route we're constantly greeted with the warmest of smiles and the most enthusiastic waves. My arms are starting to really ache from all the vigorous waving I'm doing - it's certainly good exercise for the wrist 🤣. We're passing lots of schools along the way and the school run really is a sight to behold! Mopeds and bicycles everywhere often with several people aboard. Without exception they all look so smart and happy in their school uniforms and will invariably give us a huge smile, shout hello or wave - sometimes all three. It's so so endearing 🥰

The early arrivers at school

We made it to our homestay around 1pm still in reasonable shape and pretty good spirits. A nice enough place for the night and another cheap stay - only $13 including aircon 😉

We showered and washed our cycle gear and then quickly headed into town for a late lunch. Relying on some positive Google reviews we chose a little cafe back on the main road. We weren't disappointed and came away very satisfied and well fed.
Egg seems to come with everything - regardless of whether or not you order it 😀

After lunch we wandered around the local market and picked up a few snacks for later. Rather than venture out again in the evening we'd settled on a night in - catching up on some TV and then an early night. Our plan for tomorrow - leave at sunrise to get ahead of that devil sun!!
