Day 2 Cycle: 64 Miles

Day2 Cycle route

We awoke early with good intentions of setting off early before the real heat of the day kicked in. The most adorable guesthouse puppy was full of energy and tried to follow us πŸ₯° . 100k would have probably been a bit too much for him though πŸ˜‚. We made an early stop for breakfast at a nice roadside cafe. Unfortunately Max accidentally ordered offal for his breakfast 🀒 so we shared my fried pork with egg instead.

The kamoot route soon led us onto a dirt/gravel track which we followed for a while. This took us across country past a few smallholdings even passing a local herdswoman and her flock of cattle. Travelling off road like this is amazing and gives a beautiful insight into the local way of life. Sadly it's very challenging on the tandem though, so we rerouted back to the main road as quickly as possible.

Beautiful countryside but the rutted dirt track was pretty challenging on the tandem

Morning rush hour πŸ˜‚

Early in the day it felt like we flew along but, as the temperature continued to rise, we found we were stopping every 45 mins or so for iced passion fruit sodas and needless to say this slowed us down considerably. Max says he's worried about coming home with rotten teeth and diabetes from all of the fizzy drinks πŸ˜‚

After what felt like one helluva slog we eventually made it to our final destination for the night. The hotel seemed very nice and in no time at all we were tucking into a huge feast of Vietnamese soup, rice and grilled meat. We may have slightly over ordered!
We ordered 4 meals between us and swiftly polished off the lot (despite Max looking like he's about to fall asleep headfirst into his soup 🫣)

Fried rice with vegetables - it was πŸ˜‹

By the time we'd eaten and done our washing ready for the next morning I was totally knocked out by the heat. I had a pounding headache so took some drugs and went to bed hoping to sleep it off overnight. I felt sure Max would have a plan B if I didn't feel up to cycling in the morning πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚
